Fresh 48 Newborn Photography at Maple Grove Hospital

Fresh 48 Newborn Photography at Maple Grove Hospital

Hey there, Minneapolis families and soon-to-be parents! Will you be delivering your little one at Maple Grove Hospital? I’m thrilled to share some exciting news with you all. I’m delighted to announce that I’m expanding my services to include something truly special: Fresh 48 newborn photography sessions! As a dedicated newborn photographer, I’ve always been passionate about freezing those precious moments in time when your little ones are just beginning their journey in this world.

Maple Grove Hospital has been recognized as one of the best places to have a baby! I wasn’t lucky enough to have my son there, as the birthing center opened just 4 months after he was born. But, I’ve had SO many clients deliver their babies there and they always sing their praises!

What exactly is a Fresh 48 session, you might ask? Well, let me fill you in! Fresh 48 sessions are all about capturing those incredibly fleeting first hours of your baby’s life, right in the comfort of your hospital room. It’s a chance to document those tiny details, adorable yawns, and tender moments as you and your little one get to know each other in those early hours after birth.

So, why did I decide to start offering Fresh 48 sessions? The answer is simple: because these moments are truly magical. There’s something so beautiful and raw about those first hours together as a family, and I wanted to give families in Maple Grove the opportunity to preserve those memories forever.

One of the things I love most about Fresh 48 sessions is the authenticity they capture. There’s no need to worry about coordinating outfits or posing your baby just right. Instead, it’s all about embracing the natural beauty of those early moments together. From the way your baby curls up in your arms to the way they scrunch their little nose when they yawn, every detail is worth remembering.

Plus, Fresh 48 sessions offer a wonderful opportunity to include siblings and other family members in the photoshoot. It’s a chance to capture the joy and excitement of welcoming a new addition to the family, making these photos even more meaningful for years to come.

Now, I understand that the first few days after giving birth can be a whirlwind of emotions and adjustments. That’s why I’ve designed my Fresh 48 sessions to be as stress-free as possible for new parents. I’ll work closely with you to find a time that works best within those first 48 hours after birth, ensuring that you can focus on bonding with your baby while I take care of capturing those precious moments.

If you’re expecting a little one soon or know someone who is, I’d love to chat more about scheduling a Fresh 48 session. Trust me when I say that these photos will be cherished for a lifetime, serving as a beautiful reminder of the incredible journey you’ve embarked on as a family.

So, here’s to celebrating those first moments together – I can’t wait to be a part of capturing them for you!

Which newborn photography session is right for you?

Congratulations!  You’re expecting a new baby, or maybe you’ve already had your baby, and you’ve decided to invest in newborn photos for your family.  Smart choice!

You’re probably scouring the internet and asking around friends and family about how to find a newborn photographer.  There are so many great resources to find a photographer to take newborn photos, however, you’ve probably seen on more than one website that there are two options when it comes to newborn photos:  Posed and Lifestyle. Which newborn portrait session is right for you?

These terms are more commonly used in the photography community and may not be something you’re all too familiar with.  So, you’re probably thinking, what the heck do those mean?  Read on and I’ll explain.

Newborn Photography is a Speciality:

First off, not all photographers offer both types of newborn photography sessions and some photographers just don’t offer any at all.  It’s important that you find a photographer that’s not only trained on how to take newborn photos but actually likes to take them and is experienced with newborns.

You may have loved working with your wedding photographer, but he or she may not be your best bet when it comes to newborn photos.  Ask them and check out their portfolio before assuming they work with newborns, as well.  Your best bet is to find a photographer who clearly specializes in newborn photography.

Lifestyle Newborn Photography:new mom and dad look happily at their baby boy

Lifestyle Newborn Photography is about capturing your connection as a new family and your interactions with your baby.  This doesn’t necessarily mean everyone is looking at the camera, or even posed together.

Candid photos are taken of you rocking your baby in the nursery, snuggling or lying down with the baby in your bedroom, giving the baby a bath, nursing your baby, etc.

These sessions typically go for about 1-2 hours and involve all family members; mom, dad, siblings, the new baby, and any family pets.  It’s also common for grandparents to share in these sessions as well.

The benefit of a lifestyle newborn session is the session can be much shorter because there’s no need to wait for the baby to fall asleep.  There’s no special equipment or props needed and the baby can stay fully dressed or swaddled to stay warm.

This type of session is also great for those wanting a little extra time to settle in with their new baby because these can be done several weeks after the baby is born. Most of my clients prefer to hold off on this session until the baby is about 3-4 weeks old.

Posed Newborn Photography is for those wanting more artistically designed images of their newborn baby where the focus of the session is on the newborn portraits.

These sessions are only offered in my studio. They typically last between 2-3 hours with a big chunk of that time simply waiting for the baby to fall asleep, so patience is required. It’s extremely important to have a super sleepy, well-fed newborn to pose them into all the cute little positions you may find when searching for newborn photos.

Designing these sessions is usually a collaborative effort between the photographer and the client to decide on a color scheme and prop selection.  Most newborn photographers have a variety of blankets, wraps, baskets, and outfits to choose from in their style, however, most photographers are open to using some of their client’s props, too.

Newborn photographers usually have taken several workshops, either in person or online, in newborn photography and have training and experience working with newborn babies and newborn safety.  The photographer will be handling your little one for the majority of the session, so it’s important they have your baby’s safety in mind.

Posing and handling newborns is a delicate task, so choosing someone with experience and knowledge should be the most important thing on your list!

You may also notice while searching around, that most photographers charge different newborn session fees for these types of sessions.

Posed Newborn Sessions require more time overall between planning the session, preparing for the session, the time spent at the session itself, and editing, so the session fee is usually higher than a Lifestyle Newborn Session.

So, which one is right for you?  Ask yourself this: how much time do you want to invest in your newborn session and what type of images would you be the happiest with in the end?

Family and Newborn Photos in the studio in Minneapolis, MN

Family and Newborn Photos in the studio in Minneapolis, MN

I had such a lovely time working with this family on their family and newborn photos in the studio in Minneapolis, MN. Technically my studio is just 20 minutes north of Minneapolis in Brooklyn Park, so it’s just a short drive from downtown.

This beautiful family added another gorgeous baby girl to their family and I think big sister is in love! She did so well for the sibling photos. She was so gentle and loving with her newborn baby sister.

Working with toddlers can always be a little tricky as this can be a very confusing time for them. Most of the time we’re able to work a little magic and get at least one image of the siblings together. The shot below, where I take the shot from above with both siblings lying on their backs, is the most popular. It’s also the safest and easiest pose to get them into.

Another option is to have the baby lying on the floor with the big sister or brother lying behind them on their tummy looking down at the baby or giving the baby little kisses and snuggles. I rarely ever have the older sibling hold the baby unless they’re a bit older. Safety is always my first priority in the studio when it comes to the kiddos.

If you’re looking for someone to capture your family and newborn photos in the studio in Minneapolis, MN, I’d love to work with you! I’m fully booked in July and August but still have a few openings left in September and October. Reach out today to schedule your session!

This incredibly sweet couple found me looking for a newborn photographer near Albertville, MN and it was such an honor documenting their first baby for them.

The little guy wasn’t big on sleep at the beginning of the session, so we got a few awake shots and then waited it out. Sometimes a little extra food and some white noise can do the trick. The fun thing about having a baby that’s awake and then starts to fall asleep during the newborn photography session is that I can capture a few little smirks and smiles as they drift off to sleep.

I tend to move pretty quickly once the baby falls asleep to make the most out of the time at the studio. My goal is to complete the entire session in 2 hours; 3 hours at the very longest. After that, everyone starts getting a little tired and hungry and sweaty (ok that might be just me).

I do keep snacks at the studio for my parents and older siblings, just to make sure no one gets hangry. 🙂

If you’re looking for a newborn photographer in the Twin Cities area, please contact me soon! My schedule is full through the end of the summer and I’m now booking sessions in September, October, and November.

This beautiful couple was looking for a newborn photographer near Zimmerman MN and I’m so happy they found me!

A trend I’ve had a lot lately is having the baby be in baby clothes rather than wrapped for the parent and family photos. I usually wrap the baby to keep them calm and happy, but most babies I’ve photographed in cute baby clothes have been pretty happy! And I love the results!

Mama picked some great color choices for their family photos in both sets of images. The first set of photos was taken with Mom, Dad, and Baby in tones of blue and purple. This ended up being a great color palette for spring and the colors really popped against the neutral tones in the studio.

The second set of outfits was in tones of grey, white, and peach. These colors also worked so perfectly together and again, I love the results!

Then we moved on to the baby’s posed and styled photos. She slept through the first round of images, but need up waking up towards the end and wouldn’t fall back to sleep. So, Mom brought another outfit that she wanted her photographed in, so we took the opportunity to take those photos last.

Wide-awake shots have been some of my favorites lately! It is so fun to capture such a tiny little human’s personality and facial expressions! I just love these ones!
