The 6-month milestone is one of my favorite milestones to capture. When do I schedule my baby’s 6-month photos is a question I get often from new parents. This milestone is best celebrated once your baby sits unassisted but is not yet crawling. Not only is your baby sitting up on their own, which is a huge milestone, but they’re usually pretty smiley, too.
Waiting until your baby is sitting unassisted will allow for more variety in the 6-month milestone photo session. We don’t need to use anything to prop them up. This can result in your baby leaning backward for the photos, which isn’t the best angle to get. We want your baby to sit up, lean forward, and grab those little toes!
In the studio, I use props like my little wooden bed, my bamboo basket, and my wooden bowls. These are more easily used when the baby can sit on them or in them without assistance. I’m happy to coordinate with colorful wraps and basket stuffers to your baby’s outfit for a beautiful cohesive look to your baby’s portraits.
Two poses I also love to capture at the 6-month milestone portrait session are the tummy time pose and the lying on the back pose. I absolutely love it when babies lie on their backs while grabbing those little toes. It’s just the best!
The 6-month photo session doesn’t come without its caveats. This is a time when your baby could be teething or experiencing a little bit of “stranger danger”. I recommend that if you suspect your baby is teething give a dose of Tylenol or Ibuprofen before the session. This will ward off any pain the baby might be having. Teething babies want to be cuddled by mom and dad, not necessarily sitting and smiling for the camera.
You may be asking yourself, when do I schedule my baby’s 6-month photos with Alicea Rose Photography? The answer is right now!
