Using Digital Composites to Create Beautiful and Artistic Newborn Images
Posted: June 22, 2022

I had so much fun using digital composites to create beautiful and artistic newborn images for this newborn photography session. I love when parents of baby girls want to really girly it up with soft pastel colors and incorporate flowers and greenery into their photos.

During the pre-session consult, I had Mom send me her ideas for what she wanted for her own newborn photos. I knew a few of the images she had sent to me had been composites using digital backgrounds. Digital backgrounds are a great way to create really artistic and creative images without having to spend a ton of money on props. Newborn photography props can be very expensive and take up a lot of space in a photography studio.

I’ve found a lot of sellers on Etsy that create these designs and sell them for anywhere between $5 and $20, so they are much cheaper than buying all of the props individually, especially if you might not ever use them again.

I had Mom scope out a few on Etsy and send me her favorites, so we could create some for her own session gallery. These are 2 of the ones she sent to me. I love how the final images turned out.

It’s helpful to know ahead of the studio newborn and family photography session which digital background I’ll be merging the baby with, so I know what to shoot for. For the first image, I had mom pick out a pink flower head band that would work perfectly with the pink and cream flowers surrounding the baby. For the second image, she opted for the head band with a cream flower and greenery matching so well with the green stems of the yellow tulips and honey bees. I honestly couldn’t love how these turned out any more!

With any of my studio newborn photography packages, I’m happy to include 1-2 composite images for your gallery. These images do take some extra time to work on in Photoshop, so if you want more than 1-2 images, I do have to charge a little extra. But I’m happy to buy the digital backgrounds since I may use them again in the future.

Aren’t they just the most beautiful family?

This newborn baby girl had so much hair and dark long eyelashes! Just stunning.

She was such a great baby to work with and slept through most of the session without much fuss.

I’m currently booked out through the end of the summer and am now scheduling sessions for September, October, November, and December wrapping up 2022! Contact me today to snatch up a date on my calendar.
