Outdoor winter maternity photos can be really tricky in MN. We had originally scheduled this session on a Sunday when an unexpected, longer than usual winter storm came rolling through the Twin Cities. The weatherman predicted the storm would be done by noon that day, but as luck would have it, it didn’t stop snowing until later that evening and we ended up with over 6 inches of snow! So, our session for that day was cancelled.
Following that lovely round of snow, the temps plunged into what is known as the Polar Vortex and temps hovered in negative numbers for several days. One day in between the subzero temps and yet another snowstorm, we finally managed to get a day to reschedule their photos. It wasn’t exactly a warm up, but it was finally above freezing and the wind was calm, so we were able to get their session done right before another snowstorm was scheduled to roll through.
Because it was only 12 degrees outside when we took these, we had to move quickly. We were able to get quite a good variety in a short amount of time. I absolutely love how the colors of their jackets and clothing popped against the fresh white snow. Yep, I did make them take off their jackets for a few…but I swear it was only for about 5 minutes! And their dog, Bella, what so darn cute! She was having a blast picking up every stick she could find and rolling around in all the fresh white powder.
Here are a few favorites from our time together! Contact me to schedule your own maternity session today!
