When a Facebook friend of mine, a friend that goes wayyyyyy back, contacted me about newborn photos for her son I was pretty darn excited!  Her baby had actually been born 10 weeks early and was already technically going on 2 months old, so I thought for sure she had a photographer booked already.  I’m not one to solicit my services, I’m just not that kind of person, so when she contacted me I was elated.

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect going into this one.   When I photograph newborns, full-term newborns, I always advise mom and dad that they should be between 5-10 days old for their session.  Why you may ask?  Mainly because they are all new and squishy at this time.  They’ve been all curled up in the womb for the past few months and this is how they naturally position themselves, but only for the first couple week of life.  Once their muscles start to form a memory, they start to become stronger and more tense, making it harder to pose them.

I prepped mom the night before via e-mail, letting her know the steps to take to get him primed for his session.  She followed all my tips and tricks and when I got to her home that afternoon she warned me he had a bit of a rough morning with lots of crying fits.  Well, it only seemed to help during our session because once she fed him and we moved him into position for the first pose…he was out like a light!

Besides being out of the womb for almost 2 months, he actually let me pose him for a few!  I’m so in love with how these turned out.

I have the best job in the world.  Being chosen to document these precious little people and these fleeting times in their lives is such an honor.  Thank you!!
