I’m excited to share this Minnetonka Maternity Photography at Purgatory Park with you! Taking outdoor winter maternity photos can be tricky here in Minnesota. We didn’t get much snow on the ground until almost the end of December, so when we originally planned this session in early December we postponed it because it wouldn’t have been very pretty. Lucky for us we had a huge snowstorm on Christmas, which worked perfectly for our early January session date.
It can also be quite cold depending on when you have the photos taken. December is usually pretty mild here in Minnesota but from January to March it can be a crap shoot! The day we took these outdoor maternity photos it was 18 degrees outside and yes, it felt 18 degrees! Luckily we had no wind, but it didn’t take long for cheeks, noses, and fingers to turn red. We moved quickly and got what we needed while still having fun in the process.
I normally recommend having your pregnancy photos taken between 32-36 weeks. Sometimes babies come early and we don’t want to miss that window of opportunity when your belly is nice and round. When we originally scheduled this session we were definitely in that safe zone, so it was a little scary to postpone this session because we rescheduled it the week before her scheduled C-section. Talk about cutting it close!
I’m excited about meeting their little guy on Sunday during his newborn session at my Golden Valley studio! At least we know we’ll be warm and cozy for those posed newborn photos of their baby and family photos, too.

If you’re pregnant and want to get your maternity session or newborn session scheduled, please contact me today. My calendar is normally booked up about 1-2 months in advance. It’s best to schedule your sessions in your 2nd trimester.
