In-Home Lifestyle Newborn Photography

What to Expect:

On the day of your relaxing in-home lifestyle newborn session, you’ll invite me into your home and give me a little tour. We’ll chat a little bit about how you’re feeling and how the baby is doing. There’s no need to go off schedule, so you can feed, change, and snuggle your baby as needed.

Most parents like taking photos of their newborn and family in the nursery, master bedroom, and living room. So, I always recommend tidying up those areas before I arrive.

As we go through each room, I’ll lightly pose and guide you as we capture these once-in-a-lifetime images of you, your spouse, and any siblings with your new baby. The focus will be on your love, joy, and connection with each other.

The lifestyle newborn session will last about 1 hour, but there’s no time limit on these sessions. I stay as long as needed to capture every image you want to tell your baby’s story.

What to Expect:

On the day of your session, I’ll invite you into my cozy newborn and family photography studio. We’ll chat a bit about how you’re feeling and how the baby is doing. I love hearing about the birth, so be prepared to share the details!

Depending on your baby’s schedule, we may start with a feeding before we start with your family photos. During family photos, your baby will be wrapped keeping the baby warm and comfortable, or in an outfit you may have brought from home.

After family photos, I’ll take over safely and gently posing your baby and styling each pose with beautiful and timeless props and accessories in the colors of your choice.

This is a great time for you to rest, relax, or get caught up on emails while your trusted newborn photographer creates a gallery of images you’ll treasure forever. You can even take a nap and get caught up on that much-needed sleep.

The posed newborn session typically lasts about 2-3 hours, but there’s no time limit on these sessions. We’ll stay as long as needed to create a beautiful gallery you’ll be proud to hang on your walls and preserve in an heirloom album.

It’s truly important when searching for a Minneapolis Newborn Photographer, that you check their credentials and make sure they have completed newborn safety training.

I’m happy to let you know I have completed the safety training required through APNPI (Accredited Professional Newborn Photographers International). I also have a long history of working with infants as a newborn photographer for over 12 years and through my experience as a daycare center teacher.

Posing newborns is a delicate task. All of my posing puts babies in a natural, safe, and comfortable position without the need for an assistant. I would never put your baby in harm’s way for the sake of my art.

When choosing a newborn photographer; choose wisely.

Frequently Asked Questions

Minneapolis Newborn photography

When should I schedule my newborn photoshoot?

It’s best to contact me during your 2nd trimester since I have a limited number of sessions available each month. Ensuring a spot on my calendar is important, as I tend to be booked 2 months in advance.

What if my baby arrives early, or I go past my due date?

No problem! Babies have their own arrival schedule, and I understand that. I have the flexibility to ensure your session takes place at the perfect time for you. Rest assured, your session will be scheduled right on time.

What should I wear to my newborn photoshoot?

Pinterest is a great resource for what-to-wear guides! This is a personal choice and preference, however, this is what I recommend:

  • wear what’s comfortable in solid colors and simple patterns
  • avoid matching outfits; instead, coordinate with 2-3 colors
  • avoid shirts with logos or writing on them
  • long dresses/pants look best
Can I bring props to my newborn portrait session?

Yes, of course! I highly encourage the use of props that hold personal significance to you. Whether it’s a knitted blanket or an outfit that has been gifted to your baby or passed down, incorporating these items into your newborn photos can bring a unique and heartfelt touch.

In my posed newborn sessions, I gladly provide all the props based on my style, allowing you to choose the colors that resonate with you. I understand the importance of capturing these special moments and creating a meaningful experience for you.

Should I bring outfits for my newborn to wear?

Not unless you have a special outfit you’re really wanting your newborn photographed in. Newborns often “swim” in newborn clothing, which doesn’t always photograph the best. I use specialized newborn props in the studio that are meant solely for newborn photography so they fit right and look good in the images.

How long is a typical posed newborn photography session?

A studio newborn session with posed images including your family, your kids, and your newborn alone will take about 2-3 hours. Each baby is different, but a baby that has some issues with acid reflux and/or gas may go a bit longer as they need to be soothed more frequently. A baby that sleeps through most of the session without any issues will typically result in a shorter session.

My goal is always to have you in and out of the studio in under 3 hours. My record is 1 hour and 45 minutes!
