He’s Ours {Minneapolis Baby Adoption Photographer}
Posted: September 8, 2015

I had the honor of meeting Carrie and Josh through a mutual Facebook friend.  I had been scrolling through the usual status updates, check-ins and selfies one day a few months back when I saw a friend of mine congratulating their friend on their new baby, while linking to their CaringBridge site.  I had to say I was a little confused and intrigued because typically when someone has a CaringBridge site they are going through some sort of trauma in their lives, so the “congratulations” had be baffled.

My curiosity got the better of me, so I clicked on the link to their site.  There was a sweet update along with a photo of newborn baby saying how happy they were to be there for the birth and how wonderful the birth mom is…but it still didn’t explain why this was posted on CaringBridge…until I read a bit further.

While trying for a while to conceive their first baby, Carrie was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and had gone through a complete hysterectomy.  Their first entry was shortly following her surgery back in May 2013, so I knew by the time their son came into their lives, they had been dealing with this for quite some time.  My heart immediately went out to them first with thoughts of sympathy for how they had tried so hard to have a baby only to be beaten down by cancer, but then I switched gears and though, “This deserves to be celebrated!  This couple is in need of a happy, fun, family photo session to celebrate this miraculous occasion.”

I contacted my friend explaining I had seen their story through the Facebook link and wanted to give them some information regarding Red Thread Sessions.  Red Thread Sessions are done by volunteer photographers for families who have recently adopted.  I also offered my services if they didn’t want to go through them and told her to have them contact me.  Carrie sent me a message and we decided to wait a few months until their baby was 6 months old to do their session, which worked out perfectly.

We met at a park in Maple Grove on a warm and muggy Sunday morning.  In fact, shortly after I got home from this session it began raining.  We lucked out given the fact we had to reschedule from the day before due to rain.  Carrie and Josh were super sweet and their happiness radiated!  I also found out shortly after our session that their adoption had become legal, so this session truly was a celebration on many levels!

Congratulations to you all!!
