What type of photography do you do?

My specialty is newborn, baby and maternity photography. I work with babies up to 1 year of age, however, older siblings are always included in maternity, newborn and baby photos as well as pets of any kind!

What is your style?

I’m a big fan of keeping things classic and timeless. I want these images to be heirlooms you’ll have in your family forever. I’d hate for your future grandchildren to wonder “what the heck were they thinking?” when they look at your images (no awkward family photos here). I love capturing emotions and moments, which is why I may have you snuggle in and tickle your littles. But I also love creating classic portraits as well. Your gallery will be a combination of both.

Where is your studio located?

My private photography studio is located just a few miles west of Minneapolis in Golden Valley. There is easy access from Hwy 100 and Hwy 55. The address is 810 Lilac Dr. N Suite 217. There is free parking, so no need to worry about parking fees. Once you arrive you can take the stairs on either the west or east end of the building and head on up to the 2nd floor and walk to suite 217. Feel free to knock or come on in! Sessions are by appointment only, so you’ll be the only one there at that time.

When should I book my newborn photography session?

I take a limited number of newborn sessions each month, so I recommend booking early in your 2nd trimester. I typically schedule my newborn sessions on weekends starting around 10am. If my weekends around your due date fill up with other sessions, we’ll move the session to a day during the week that works for everyone. Most of my clients are on maternity and paternity leave around that time, so there’s more flexibility.

What if my baby comes early, or late?

It’s not uncommon for newborns to make their appearance much earlier (or later) than your due date. I’ve had moms go as early as 5 weeks and as late as 3 weeks. We’ll move your tentative newborn photo shoot date to another date that works for everyone. Preemie newborn sessions are scheduled as close to the original due date as possible. This gives them time to continue doing all the growing and developing they would have done inside the womb.

When should I schedule my maternity photography session?

Most moms have a nice round belly and aren’t incredibly uncomfortable around 7-8 months into their pregnancy (28-36 weeks). If you wait until your last month, you do take the risk of the photo session being cancelled if you go early (had that happen twice, unfortunately). I aim for shooting outdoor maternity sessions in late Spring, Summer and early Fall in the evening at sunset. The rest of the year sessions take place in my studio in the morning.

When should I schedule my baby’s milestone session?

After the “newborn phase” I personally feel the best milestone to capture is around that 6-7 month age; when baby is expressive and can sit up on their own, but not yet crawling. The other milestone I love capturing is the 1 year birthday session. Turning 1 is a big deal and in many cultures it’s considered the biggest event in a person’s life. It doesn’t matter if your baby isn’t walking yet, it’s important to capture them at 1 year just as they are. Adding a birthday cake smash into the session is a fun way to celebrate it. Food smashes of any kind to personalize the session is all the rage these days, so it’s a great time to get creative!

What should I wear to my photo session?

This is a personal choice and preference, however, first and foremost wear what’s comfortable. Secondly, avoid bold and busy patterns and logos/writing of any kind. Anything written on a shirt is very hard to photograph, even on babies, so simple is best. Men always look great in a button up with or without a tie. If coordinating for you and your spouse or family, avoid matching outfits. Coordinate the colors with a good mix of 3 or 4, but have each person wear something different and don’t forget to accessorize your outfit with a scarf and/or jewelry.

Can I use my own props in the photos?

Yes, absolutely! I definitely encourage the use of props if they are meaningful to you. Ultrasound photos, baby shoes and books can really personalize your maternity photos. Knitted blankets and outfits given as gifts or passed down to your baby can add special meaning to newborn and baby photos. Otherwise, in my posed newborn sessions, I provide all of the props based on your color preferences for the photos.

What if I need to cancel my session?

As a mom, I totally understand that things come up; illness and unplanned events happen in life. Your session can definitely be rescheduled to another date and time that works for both of us. If you end up cancelling your session entirely, just know the booking fee deposit is non-refundable.

Will my images always be posted to social media?

I 100% respect my clients’ privacy and will not post images to Facebook, or the like, if you don’t feel comfortable with that. I do use images in my website portfolio and may blog your session, but I never ever use names of any kind, first or last, in my blog posts.

Will I get Printing Rights and Copyrights to the image files?

You will receive a Printing Right Release with your download of images, which means you can print to heart’s delight whenever and wherever you choose. It’s important for you to understand as a client and consumer that when working with an artist of any kind (photographer, painter, musician, etc.) that even though you are the subject model in the artist’s work, you never get the copyrights to the artwork. That stays with the artist forever and ever, unless the artist sells the copyright to you and gives up their rights to the artwork as the creator. It is illegal and punishable by law if you use an image (or music for that matter), other than for personal printing (or listening), without the consent of the artist.

If you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to me! I look forward to hearing from you and working with you!
