This time of year can be oh-so-tricky when scheduling outdoor photo sessions, especially when little kids are involved.
Last weekend was virtually perfect in terms of Fall weather. In fact, it was warmer than usual making for even those early morning shoots a bit warm in typical Fall-weather clothing (lots of layers topped off with a sweater or cardigan). In fact, I was sweating through my sessions last weekend, but in the end the results were nothing short of fantastic (those sessions will be blogged soon!).
Earlier this week, a cold front came through giving way to rain, wind and much cooler temps. As in, cooler than usual temps and just downright cold. Yesterday was about as blustery a Fall day as you can get with rain, high winds and temps just barely getting into the 40’s (enter the image of Winnie the Pooh holding tight to the scarf as Piglet flies away into the sky as it unravels from his body).
So, today when I woke up and saw the high was only going to be 48 degrees and the winds were still kicking, I had no doubt today’s session would be moved inside or rescheduled. I have learned over the years that trying to force kids into this weather to put on their best forced smiles makes for a disaster of a photo shoot. Honestly, it probably wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t for the wind, but watery eyes and runny noses does not a good photo make.
The great thing about having a studio space is that I always have a backup for occasions such as this. My client gladly has agreed to reschedule to another date and while I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for warmers temps and lighter winds for our future session, the studio is all ready to go and I have no doubt will be just as successful inside.
In the meantime, I’d like to share this gorgeous baby’s 9-month photos with you taken on a warmer, sunnier, and less windy late summer morning. Enjoy!
