I had such a great time with this beautiful couple this past summer for their maternity photos we took at West Medicine Lake Park in Plymouth. We had such a gorgeous evening for photos, they were dressed perfectly, the light was fantastic and the images couldn’t have turned out any better.

When it came time for this little guy’s newborn photos, I was pretty sure his session would go just as smoothly as their maternity session. I had brought some of the cutest little props with me and I was pretty excited to use them, as they went with the nautical theme of his nursery and dad’s love for fishing. Unfortunately, baby had other plans. Sometimes things just don’t go as planned. Every baby has their off days and little things they’re still adjusting to outside of the womb. It happens.

After unsuccessfully working with this little guy for his posed newborn photos, we had to make the decision and change the course of the session. We got just a few photos of him on the beanbag and in a basket and bowl, but he was still having a bit of a rough time being put down for an extended amount of time. So, we went into mom and dad’s bedroom and took some photos of them snuggling with him and soothing him the best they could. These photos ended up being some of the my favorite newborn photos ever. We could all tell that his happy place was being warm and cozy right up to mom and dad. Who could blame him?
